Associated Clan or Clans

Sept Name Search - Enter the family name in the box and click the Exact button. This compares the name against names taken from Scottish Parish records. If this does not give a result try the Wide button. This compares the name against the many thousands of recorded derivitives of Scottish names.

When a clan connection has been established click on the View Clan Info button to view the Crest, Location, Clan Seat, History and Tartans. ClanFinderŪ currently has full information on 204 clans and partial information on the remaining clans. There are 348 clans registered with the standing coucil of scottish chiefs. On-going research will add more information as it becomes available.

Town Name Search - If you are unabe to trace your name via the sept name search facility you may be successful in using the town name search to the left, which associates a particiular town or village with a clan. Such information may come from old family documents or known places of birth.

Enter the exact name of the town or village In Scotland, click on Search. The main clan or clans associated with the town will be returned - then cllick on View Clan Info.
